In this edition, IBEW Local 223, has partnered with the UK-based contractor, JDR, to tackle the Vineyard Wind Project – the largest offshore wind turbine project in U.S. History.
The project is located 35 miles off the coast of Massachusetts, and 15 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. It will consist of 62 turbines, spaced 1 nautical mile apart, and has the capacity to produce as much as 803 megawatts to power, enough to power 400,000 homes and reduce carbon emissions by over 1.6 million tons per year when complete.
A project of this magnitude will undoubtedly boost the economy and create job opportunities for IBEW members in the region for years to come.
