In the 9th District on the Hawaiian island of O’ahu resides perhaps one of the most unique electrical projects around. Members from IBEW Local 1186 are busy constructing a new recreation destination within the Hoakalei Resort on the island’s southwestern coast. Wai Kai is an active, year-round destination where residents and visitors will be able to connect to the land, water, and Hawaiian culture by experiencing first of its kind attractions, signature events, and the natural beauty of the Pacific Ocean.

In addition to restaurants, bars, and event space, is the Wai Kai wave pool – the area’s signature attraction. The Wai Kai wave is a deep water standing surf wave that spans 100 feet wide with perfect, endless, and adjustable glassy waves for all skill levels to practice their moves. Unlike the sheet wave pools at water parks or on cruise ships, Wai Kai wave is an authentic surf experience. And it’s the brothers and sisters of IBEW 1186 who are bringing the waves to life. Learn more about the details of this exciting new project in today’s video!
