IBEW President Lonnie Stephenson would like to reiterate the importance of the Code of Excellence. It is what sets us apart to current and future customers. The Code of Excellence means the best training, the best skills, the best attention to safety, and the best attitude. It is turning heads throughout the construction industry and is leading to a better quality of work all around.

Thanks to the Code of Excellence, pioneered here years ago, the IBEW is moving at the speed of business.

Transcript – The Code of Excellence

Hello brothers and sisters. That sound you hear is the world moving at the speed of business. Investors, banks, and businesses are building once again. Cranes dot the landscape.

The IBEW man-hours are up, in many areas there seems to be a certain momentum going on in the construction industry. That’s why one of my first moves as President involved the Code of the Excellence. I wanted to go on record, to anyone who would listen, that the IBEW is still 100% committed to this program. So we produced a video, that not only lives here 24/7 on Hour Power, but is also a part of our sales presentation for our business development department and progressive business managers are taking it across North America.

The presentation briefly explains the main elements of the Code. It talks about respect. It talks about giving 8 for 8. It talks about working as a team with our contractors like never before. The message conveys the IBEW brand in a way that both current and hopefully new customers will understand; and that is a return on investment. There are still people out there that will pay for quality; they just need a reason why.

Here is a very brief clip from the video that I would like you to see:

“If you are sitting still, content with the status quo you are losing ground. And today, I am proud to say, with the Code of Excellence program that we pioneered years ago, is now being emulated by many other trades in the construction industry.

“Why?

“Because it works. When our members show up with their A-Game every day we can’t be beat. We have the best training, we have the best skill, we have the best attention to safety, and we have the best attitude.”

What I say in the presentation is that the Code of Excellence works and I have proof. The code is part of a $1.4 billion job with public service in New Hampshire. It is part of a $450 million job in Milwaukee with Northwestern Mutual. It’s been implemented on a number of large data centers across the United States. There is more to this list, but you get the idea.

With the IBEW, we don’t have to apologize for being paid at the top of our profession and we never will. But brothers and sisters, the customers want something back in return. Productivity. Value. And if the code is what they need to wrap their arms around the fact that we are the best return on investment, then we are going to give it to them. You see, we want the world to know that we aren’t standing still either. As the U.S. and Canada grows, we want to be right there in the thick of it.

It’s called moving at the speed of business.
