Kayla Cordaro has been recognized as this year’s IBEW Hour Power Apprentice of the Year. Motivated, driven, and eager to learn, she is well on her way to achieving her goal of becoming a journeyman wireman for her home local, IBEW 229. Kayla is not just a dedicated apprentice; but a role model for all young women entering the field.

Kayla grew up in Camp Hill, PA, and discovered her passion for the electrical trade in high school. Encouraged by her shop teacher, she decided to explore the pre-apprenticeship program at the York Electrical Institute. The program, open to all York County high school juniors and seniors, introduces students to the essential skills necessary for becoming electricians and prepares them for a full apprenticeship.

Despite the challenges of transitioning from high school directly into a career with no prior experience, Kayla embraced the journey. Balancing work during the day and schooling in the evenings requires immense drive and motivation, qualities Kayla possesses in abundance.

As an apprentice, Kayla represents the values and spirit of IBEW Local 229. She embodies everything an apprentice should be – contributing positively to the community and striving to put her best foot forward both on the job and in the classroom.

Grateful for the opportunity and the experiences along the way, Kayla Cordero stands out as the 2024 IBEW Hour Power Apprentice of the Year. Join us in celebrating her achievements and the bright future ahead!
