As the first generation born in the U.S. to Puerto Rican parents, life wasn’t always easy for Edgar Figueroa. His younger years and the struggles he has faced tested him, a lot. However, once he made it into the IBEW Apprenticeship program he felt prepared with thicker skin and a unique life perspective. Everyday he strives to prove he is capable and he belongs.

Edgar has been a team player since day one. From his love of basketball to his military upbringing, he has a special way of connecting and working with others despite differing backgrounds. Since joining the IBEW in 2018, Edgar has been a perfect role model. He is an active union member – a Shop Steward, an Apprentice Training Committee member and an Executive Board member for Local 40.

Edgar embodies fairness and a passion for his craft. He tirelessly supports his fellow brothers and sisters and provides them with an example of what it means to be a true leader. With journeymen like Edgar around, the IBEW is in good hands. Join us in congratulating Edgar on being the 2023 Journeyman of the Year, a well deserved award!
