IBEW Local 134’s newly remodeled union hall shows the pride the union has in the community and the membership.

Don Finn, Business Manager, IBEW Local 134, said, “Today is our grand opening of our IBEW 134 union hall and Bronzeville campus. We came from 600 West Washington, which was a great hall, but we outgrew it. Our members deserve a great union hall like they have now. They’ve done an unbelievable job supporting us and we’re going to keep them proud.”

Lonnie Stephenson, IBEW International President, said, “Local 134 in Chicago recently purchased this property and remodeled it. It’s good for the local union and great for the community.”

Don Finn, Business Manager, IBEW Local 134, said, “We chose the Bronzeville community to relocate our offices because it’s a jewel that hasn’t been looked into. Coming here and partnering with the community is a perfect fit. We’re very proud of what has transpired since moving here.

The Terry Allen Community Center was combined with the union hall as a way to include the Bronzeville community. IBEW 134 came to the city as a partner, not just a union.

Lonnie Stephenson, IBEW International President, said, “It’s very fitting they dedicated the hall in Terry’s honor and opened it up to the community. He was a person trying to reach out to everyone.”

The dedication was held on Memorial Day as a chance to honor the fallen brothers and sisters from Local 134.

Don Finn, Business Manager, IBEW Local 134, said, “We thought it was necessary for their families to get a special day of recognition and have that union hall named after them.”

Brianna Beno said her father, Gary Beno, was a 134 journeyman for 29 years. He was also a single father to her and her brother Brett. The invite to be part of the dedication means a lot to her and her brother.

Briana Beno, Daughter of the late Gary Beno, said, “It’s so heartwarming because 134 was there through the initial process. It’s just a community, and it really is the brotherhood. It’s nice to know after all this time the IBEW is still thinking about us.”

The new campus of Local 134 embodies everything that the IBEW stands for. Pride in its members, the work, and the community.

Lonnie Stephenson said Local 134 is recognized across Chicago for how they help the community. He said he feels great pride coming to the building and knowing how they’re helping the city.

Don Finn, Business Manager, IBEW Local 134, said, “I’m proud as a peacock of the Terry Allen Community Center. I’m proudest of the union hall. People are in awe of what organized labor has done and what Local 134 has done.”
