The IBEW Hour Power Apprentice of the Year is Cory Davis from IBEW Local 1.
Cory is a hardworking person who always has his mind on the task. He embodies everything an IBEW member should be. He proves himself everyday on the job, with a smile on his face. At IBEW Local 1 Cory’s a fifth year apprentice, and he is deaf.
Frank Jacobs, Business Manager, IBEW Local 1, said, “When you get someone like Cory who tries to get into our apprenticeship program, it shows me this is really what he wants to do. He wasn’t looking for a job; he was looking for a career. Once he got to put his hands on electric work he proved he was meant to do this.”
Cory loves the brotherhood because it feels like a bond to him. Although his job can be a little stressful sometimes, he puts in hard work and shows them what he’s able to do. Not only is he part of the IBEW, but he’s also a very family oriented person who would do anything for his wife and children.
Cory’s wife, Rebecca Davis said, “I was just so proud of him because he fought for his dream. It was finally able to come true for him. I’m just beyond proud of him.”
Cory is the embodiment of the perfect apprentice. He had the persistence to follow the career path he wanted, although it was a long road. Cory is an apprentice that positively affects not only the other apprentices but also the journeymen and wiremen on the job.
